Flaws Feeds Flavor

The Ask:

Grocery store produce is treated as the default standard, while imperfect or “ugly” produce is overlooked and undervalued. Although Misfits Market offers a more affordable and sustainable alternative, the category is still perceived as a compromise, something people settle for rather than choose.
How do we reframe “imperfect” produce from something undesirable into something people actively want, showing that what looks flawed can actually be better in taste, value, and impact?

The Solution:

We turn “misfits” into characters that prove appearance doesn’t define quality. By bringing imperfect produce to life as small, endearing helpers, we shift perception from rejection to appreciation. Each story places a person struggling with bad, expensive, or artificial food, then introduces a “misfit” that comes to the rescue, delivering better taste, better value, and a smarter choice through Misfits Market. Reframing flaws as personality and purpose shows that misfit produce isn’t a compromise, it’s the better option hiding in plain sight.

The spot opens on an adorably endearing tomato character walking along the sidewalk at night on an evening stroll.

The tomato is walking by when he hears a microwave beep. He cocks his head to the side and follows the noise.

We then see the tomato peering into the window of a house, where he sees a man sitting at a kitchen table closing his freezer packed full of microwaved and packaged meals while eating a microwaved meal. He gasps a little and steps back, clumsily almost falling off of the windowsill.

The tomato hangs off the windowsill, then does a little jump onto the ground, where he starts waddle-running back to the sidewalk.

We see the tomato on his tiny phone, talking very animatedly.

The scene cuts to the tomato character joined by a bell pepper character and a potato character of the same design all moving a Misfits Market box into a garage in the middle of the night.

The vegetables are peering in the window, watching the man discover the box with curiosity.

We then see the man cooking, looking happy, dancing around the kitchen, having a good time, the Misfits Market box, products from their partnered brands, and misshapen produce sitting on the counters around him.

The vegetable characters are watching it happen through the window, and they all turn to each other and high-five and cheer.

The spot opens on an adorably endearing, bruised-peach character walking along the sidewalk, whistling and having a great morning. It winks and shoots finger guns at a passing cat.

She notices an open door in the house next to her. She then hesitantly steps into the house and is looking around while walking through. We then see her peering around a doorframe where she sees a woman looking in her fridge and it’s empty except for one avocado that she throws away. The peach gets a sad look on her face and starts thinking.

We then see the peach have a “lightbulb moment” and jog out of the house, turning left outside the door. We see the peach running down the street, where she approaches a group of other bruised, misshapen fruits, panting and talking animatedly, jumping around and waving her arms.

The scene cuts to the fruits all carrying the Misfits Box into the house. The pear pushes a bag of Dave’s Bread around the counter, the banana is pushing an OliPop around in the fridge, and the Apple is placing misshapen produce in a bowl.

SFX: A door closes in another room.

The fruits all jump high and start scattering, running out of the house, slipping and sliding. The fruits turn the corner and peek into the house, where we see the woman, now out of the shower, find the box and the groceries in the fridge. She smiles and looks happy.

The fruits all celebrate and dance around, high-fiving.

The spot opens on a bright orange piece of salmon walking down the street at sunset. It is wet and is leaving a trail of water behind it on the sidewalk, insinuating that it came out of fresh water

It sees a person through their window

The person is looking suspiciously at a pale, frozen steak, and then smells it and makes a disgusted face

The salmon character then gets a sad look on its face that becomes an “I have an idea” smile.

It turns around and runs down the street towards the sunset

We cut to the salmon running back up the sidewalk at night, towing a Misfit’s box behind it using a piece of rope.

It cautiously pushes the door to the house open and starts replacing the things on the counters and in the fridge/freezer with Misfit products

The last step is him placing a fresh steak in the fridge, and he smiles

He then turns around and pushes the Misfits box to the middle of the counter, stopping to take a breath, and then jumps down and walks out of the house back towards the end of the street.
